Seasonal changes are knocking but before you answer, why not try this transeasonal friendly outfit.
Hello Fashion Enthusiasts,
My favourite season is right around the corner, but for now, we are about to hit that temperamental cusp between summer and autumn, so I thought I would share a transeasonal outfit to fit the confusing weather! So without further ado, let’s get into this outfit.
Keep reading for details (and links) of this purple collared dress, boots, accessories, makeup and perfume to achieve a fun preppy purple and cream aesthetic!
Pretty in Purple?
So, this time round, it’s all about the purple and lilac accents. I am in love with this contrast polo dress, although the description on the website says it is navy, to me, the base colour looks like a dark purple. My favourite feature of the dress is the contrasting lilac accents on the placket, cuffs and collar.
I think this colour combination of dark purple and lilac is excellent for this time of year! The lilac is bright enough for sunny spells, and the darker shade mellows the outfit if the weather decides to do a 180 at some point during the day. I also think that for those who want to play with mix-matching colours (without relying on black), purple and lilac are a good complementary classic combination that can easily flow together throughout your outfit.
Contrasting Collars
I have recently realised that I am in love with collars (again, more content is coming). As you know, I like to lean towards a preppy aesthetic, so the collar initially pulled me towards this style as it prepped up the dress, in my opinion. I also mentioned the placket being lilac (the placket is the part where the buttons are placed). I love the button-up polo detail as I think it adds some fun while complementing the overall aesthetic. You can also play around with keeping the buttons fastened or unfastened, depending on the look you are going for.
Shirt It
This is a long-sleeved knit dress, so it’s warm enough for those cooler mornings; however, it is a mini dress, so if the sun perks up, you won’t be left sweltering in the heat (you can also leave the buttons unfastened as I did this time round if you need some more wiggle room or air). The dress is a soft rib and a form-fitting bodycon fit. Hence, it is definitely very stretchy but be warned, as you can see, this dress is short (TINY! – but to be fair, it is in the petite range). Form-fitting garments like this tend to rise as you move around (as always in this situation, I wore a pair of shorts underneath to avoid any embarrassing malfunctions, so I recommend you do the same if it increases your security in this outfit).
It also has side splits which, although not ridiculously high, are worth mentioning; as the dress is so short, the slits may decide how comfortable you would be in it. Although I was happy with the dress, it is a bit too short for me to comfortably wear as a dress, and I like to avoid having to constantly fidget with dresses (such as pulling them down if they rise) as doing so can (not to be dramatic); ruin your day.
For that reason, I have decided to keep this piece as I love the concept, but I will wear this dress as a shirt in the future (I will definitely post content wearing this as a top so you can have a visual). As it is already a polo dress, I think it will work beautifully as a top and pair nicely with a skirt (or trousers/shorts if that is more up your street).
Boots & Bags
I chose a lilac grab bag because I wanted to draw more attention to the lilac contrasts of the dress. I reached for ecru heeled ankle welly boots because I thought purple or black boots would’ve dulled the outfit out too much as the base colour is already quite dark. I thought the ecru cleaned up the look and allowed another colour to be thrown into the mix (also matched them to my jacket as you can see). Ecru/cream is a dependable neutral that will go well with various colours without being as stark as white.
I love ankle-welly boots for the autumn-winter months and they are convenient for rainier seasons (so all year round over here!). These boots, in particular, are very lightweight and comfortable to walk in, and for those of you that struggle with heels, these block heels are on the minimal side and not much different to being in flats, so don’t let the word “heeled’ scare you from purchasing these gems. They are also rubber, so unlike leather, no/ very minimal breaking needed!
Jewellery, Hair & Makeup
I accessorised with a gold layered chain necklace (I put it on after I took the pictures, sorry). I usually pair lilac and purple tones with silver jewellery, but on this occasion, I chose gold as it matched the hardware of the grab bag, and I didn’t want to add any additional colours to the outfit. However, it is a personal preference; you can wear any jewellery and mix metals if you want to.
I decided to amp up my usual neutral-toned makeup look and dip my toe further into the purple. I didn’t want full-on purple eyelids, so I opted for a purple waterline which I thought worked really well. It is difficult to see in the pictures, so I will repeat this makeup look and get close-up shots soon! As for hair, I went for a half-up, half-down style; I purposely wore the pony potion of the hairstyle to the side because it stepped up the originality of this particular aesthetic; however, it did go back to the centre from time to time.
Scent Check
Lastly, let’s talk perfume; you know I ALWAYS say; that no outfit is complete without it, bringing your whole aesthetic together.
I chose Jean Paul Gaultier’s ‘So Scandal’. I tend to lean towards this scent for colourful, preppy outfits (as I did in this look!) because I think it is a fun tuberose scent (the bubble gum kind!). I have mentioned before that it is quite a distinct smell which adds more dimension to any outfit.
That’s All For Now!
Thank you for reading my blog post; I hope you have found some inspo for your next outfit. Remember not to put too much pressure on yourself; there is no right or wrong. Have fun with your style and show some personality in your outfits.
Stay safe, wear what makes you happy, and personal style wins over trends any day!
Until next time fashionistas
