It can be agreed that brown is the new black and the go-to neutral of choice for many people and aesthetics. Brown is a chic, fresh, and beautiful colour. However, many people shy away from it because they are unsure how to style it and aren’t aware of how many complementary colours brown has. Keep reading for some gorgeous brown colour combinations. I am sure you will be surprised by how versatile brown can be.

White

White works with brown amazingly in any season. Because it is such a blank canvas, you can wear various hues of brown with white to create different aesthetics. If you want a warmer look, you can opt for a warmer shade of brown; vice versa, you may choose a cool tone brown.

White and brown are neutral colours; neutrals go with everything, especially other neutrals. You can even add another colour into the mix to take your look to the next level; for instance, why not add a pop of mustard yellow? In my opinion, white looks fabulous with darker browns. Still, this classic duo is timeless when white is paired with lighter caramel browns, so opportunities are endless.

Black

Wearing black and brown used to be considered a fashion faux pas. However, it is now a trendy colour combination and provides an elegant aesthetic when done correctly. As you probably already know, it is a universal truth that black goes with everything).

Black and brown look gorgeous when styled together in Autumn. If you want to throw another colour in the mix, I advise you to stick to a neutral one. Remember how I just said that white being neutral helps open the floor up to adding a bolder colour to the palette? Although black is also neutral, I usually avoid throwing in too bright colours when pairing black and brown together. I feel it can remove the finesse of the colour combination, which can be achieved flawlessly if the focus remains on a neutral palette. When pairing black and brown, it is essential to pay attention to the quality of the garments; the better the quality, the more expensive the aesthetic will look.

Green (honourable mention: Olive green)

Now I know some may be scared to pair brown and green together and may have never even considered pairing the two but the trees and forests are evidence enough that these two colours work well together. Brown and green are both earth tones, and it is a natural combination that our eyes are already trained to see so you can do no wrong when pairing these two colours. Feel free to play around with shades and different hues and see what appeals to your taste. I gave olive an honourable mention as I feel it is sometimes forgotten but it looks unreal when paired with brown and I definitely recommend you give it a go. I also love intense dark greens paired with brown; they create an elegant and chic aesthetic.

Beige

Brown and beige is a famous combination, it is no secret that these two colours take to each other like a fish in water. The reason for their perfect pairing lies in the fact that these two are in the same colour family, beige is literally a very light shade of brown. Technically when pairing these two your outfit is monochromatic although not obvious. Beige is, therefore, a great choice to pair with brown if you want a monochromatic look that is not so on the nose. A tip is to use contrasting shades to add depth to and enhance your aesthetic, you will literally look like a walking Pinterest post.

Blue

Brown and blue look great together; the contrast between brown and light blue especially is stark. Still, they balance each other out and create a beautiful aesthetic. Blue and brown are complementary colours so this combination is more or less fool-proof; denim is evidence that these two colours belong together. Like green, there is also evidence in nature that blue and brown go well together; think sea and sand.

Purple

This colour combination may be scary because it can seem complicated to get right. Still, when purple is paired with brown correctly, it looks gorgeous. The key here is to be wary of the shade of brown you are using. If it is too warm (red undertone), it may clash with purple (just remember, purple is blue and red, so adding more red can be a bit much). I recommend wearing a deep, dark, cool-toned chocolate brown and pairing it with a lilac. The contrast is unusual in the most elegant way, it creates a great combination that I am confident you can pull off. If you’re not ready to fully commit to this combo. Why not get there by starting off by pairing purple accessories on all brown outfits and vice versa?

Pink

I love the aesthetic formed by pairing brown with pink. dusty pink looks especially great with brown and creates the cutest, most feminine and vintage look. Wear a light cool pink with a warm brown for a dynamic outfit combination and vice versa. Definitely have fun with this combination because the playfulness is the most inviting part of this combo and you can’t go wrong with this timeless combination.

Yellow

Brown is a sophisticated colour, so adding yellow adds happy energy to this colour combination. These two colours pair beautifully together, and the contrast is what balances this combination out. Bright yellows pair really nicely with dark browns. Mustard yellow is my top pick when choosing fool-proof shades against brown. Consider making brown the primary colour of the outfit and use yellow as an accent if you prefer a muted look.

Burgundy

Brown and burgundy are lovely together when done right. Choosing a brown with deep red undertones complements the burgundy’s deep hue, creating a classic combination. Chocolate brown looks incredibly gorgeous with burgundy. Darker shades of brown are great for creating a uniform look that highlights the burgundy in a sophisticated way. Although, pairing the burgundy with a light shade of tan brown creates a fantastic contrast. This colour combination is a must-have for Autumn.

Brown

Last but not least on my list, monochromatic brown looks are my favourite brown looks. It may already be self-evident that brown, of course, goes with brown. Still, I thought it was worth mentioning as all brown looks are one of the more timeless and sophisticated monochrome looks. If you want to veer from all-black but are not ready to go for the all-white aesthetic, I recommend you try out an all-brown look, and you will not regret it.

Until next time,

Unique
