The weather is getting colder, so the boots are getting higher, but my skirts are staying the same!
Let’s jump right into this cute blue preppy outfit inspo I have for you. If you remember the deep dive into the dark academia aesthetic, you may recognise some elements within this outfit.
Thrill Of Twill
I wanted to play around with the preppy and dark academia aesthetic and see what I would create after thinking of my favourite elements of both styles, and that is how this outfit came to be. The check skirt worked perfectly in achieving the desired aesthetic, as check/plaid patterns are very present in both style palettes.
I opted for dark blue and navy as these colours remind me of academia and uniforms, which also resonates with both aesthetics and actually gave me major autumn vibes, in a different way than the usual browns and mustards, because of the pattern and colours that are combined in.
The skirt is really pretty but be aware it is unlined, so there is potential for it to be see-through, so please keep that in mind if you decide to purchase. Side note: remember you can add tights if you aren’t comfortable in short skirts or if you think you will get too cold wearing a skirt this season.
Sweater Season
Now that it is getting a bit cooler as we head further into Autumn, I am sure you can agree that it is time to pull out the jumpers, sweaters, sweatshirts or whatever you prefer to call them, as long as they are warm!
Although I love Autumn/Winter fashion, I don’t like when it is so cold that your coat covers everything, so I am making the most of this calm before the storm when I can wear a jumper without a coat. Yes, this skirt is quite short and the material is thin but, the soft cable-knit jumper definitely did the trick to keep me warm.
Of course, I have to mention that sweaters and knitted garments in general, especially with V-necks, are synonymous with both the preppy and dark academia aesthetic. I especially picked this sweater as I love the white ribbed outline of the neckline and cuffs, and it worked great in bringing out the skirt’s white details. This jumper is already oversized so if you usually buy a bigger size for an oversize fit, keep in mind that it may not be necessary to go as big as usual.
Let’s Talk Boots
I am ready to admit that I may be obsessed with thigh-high boots. I chose nude/beige boots because I was experimenting and wanted to see if I would like the contrast with dark blue. I loved it, and beige gave the outfit some dimension while staying within the preppy colour palette.
These aren’t ridiculously high heels (heel height), but they are stilettos, so if you are not used to heels, I recommend you practice walking in them before wearing them for a day of errands. The boots are lycra, so they are great at staying up; I can’t recall a time when I had to pull them up, which is always a standout feature of a good pair of thigh highs (for me, anyway.)
I love how long my legs looked in these boots; it wasn’t just the stiletto or the thigh-hugging lycra that did this but also the pointed toe. So there is a tip for you if you want to elongate your legs – pointed toes are the way to go.
Accents & Accessorise
I had a pair of earrings on but due to my hairstyle (middle part), you cannot see them. I knew I wouldn’t wear the sweater the traditional way because I wanted the off-shoulder look, so I didn’t wear a necklace. I kept the makeup extremely minimal.
I chose a nude grab bag because I wanted another element of the outfit to match the boots and add further depth to the outfit. I also have a thing for wearing a grab bag with preppy outfits; I just think they are cute to hold for these styles.
Scent Check
Finally, perfume: the finishing touch.
I chose Jimmy Choo ILLICIT; it is a gingery floral smell which I love to throw on for errands; it just makes me feel like put together lady out to take over the world.
It is also quite a gourmand but not in the typical sweet way; I think it smells very distinct, mainly because I don’t have any other perfume in my collection with a similar vibe.

That’s all for now!
