Why not recreate this cute, vampy, edgy but girly outfit? A super fun and simple look to give a try.
Hello Fashionistas!
I hope you are all doing well; I wanted to share a slightly different style with you today. I have started another journey of experimenting with style (incorporating and fusing different types with my own style), and I look forward to sharing the whole trip with you this time! Here is an outfit I experimented with that leans more to the edgier side than I usually go for.
Keep reading for details on a velvet slip dress, platform heels, accessories, makeup details and perfume to achieve a fun, vampy, slightly edgy, but still girly aesthetic!
Vampy Velvet…
This outfit is entirely achromatic, my favourite colour combo of all time due to its timeless and chic flair. Due to the classic colour palette, I made sure to inject some vampish personality through texture, hair, accessories and shoes. As for texture, I opted for a crushed velvet slip dress; black velvet dresses are staples for a vampish look, but I love the effect that velvet has in elevating a simple outfit. If this was a plain slip dress, it would’ve veered off into a typical LBD look, so velvet was essential in sparking my creativity and adding some edge to the look. Although The dress offers a short figure-hugging fit, this look works exceptionally well in colder seasons, particularly winter, due to the colour palette and the use of the velvet. Still, it could work year-round, depending on your style and preferences.
Daring Details
I have emphasised that although this outfit appears edgy, it is undoubtedly very feminine; this is thanks to the minute details prevalent throughout the dress. The dress has lace trims which not only further exude the edginess of the aesthetic that I was aiming for, as black lace is another staple of a vampish look, but lace is also synonymous with femininity and is quite a sensual material. Additionally, the dress had a bow underneath the v-neck, a black bow, so it didn’t draw immediate attention. Still, once you notice its presence, you won’t be able to stop looking at it; it is the perfect minor touch, and bows are a must-have for any girly outfit. The bow definitely helps to take the edge off a little bit but not too much, allowing for a light-handed, vampish aesthetic without being overly sensual.
It Is All About Balance
I paired the dress with a cropped, ribbed white long-sleeve roll-neck top. The basic top offered balance and stopped the outfit from becoming overcrowded with textures. I initially opted for a white lace top. However, because the lace wasn’t consistent with the lace trim on the dress, it looked unbalanced. So, I adjusted and went for this plainer white top which worked better and helped to emphasise my accessorising and the details of the dress, such as the lace trims, as the black lace stood out on the white background.
Let’s Talk Shoes and Bags
The heels are definitely the eye-catcher of the look, not just because they are sky-high, stunning, black patent platform heels. I mulled over whether I should add the socks to this look as it is not a common practice of my own style, but something just told me to go for it, and I couldn’t imagine this look without them. I wanted to go for a pair of frilly lace socks to add further depth to the look and another hyper-femininity element; however, I could not get my hands on any in time, so I used simple fashion socks. The socks I used still worked well to deliver the message I was going for, so I was still happy for getting out of my comfort zone. Due to the heels being patent, adding the socks made them challenging to walk in as it was harder to grip the sole. So the socks kept causing my feet to slide around; if you want to recreate this look, I advise adding some grip to the socks or getting socks that already have grip just to make walking easier. As for the bag, I went for a simple black bag with small gold details to keep the attention on the socks/heels combo and textured details throughout the outfit.
Jewellery, Hair & Makeup
I chose to go for another quintessential vampy accessory, a choker. It was the only accessory that would work as a necklace for this look without taking away the edge. Instead, it added another sensual element to the look and elevated the vampish qualities throughout the aesthetic. The black choker stood out perfectly on the white roll neck and tied the look together nicely. I went for small gold hoop earrings to compliment the bag’s details. As for hair, I experimented with a half up half down look, but with two ponytails instead of one; this was the perfect hairstyle to achieve the complete aesthetic that I was aiming for, and I love how it turned out. I definitely missed an opportunity to go for a vampy makeup look. Looking back, I should have used heavy eyeliner and gone for a smoky eye to fully commit to the aesthetic; I will definitely go for a vampy makeup look the next time I experiment with this aesthetic.
Scent Check…
Lastly, let’s talk perfume; you know I ALWAYS say; no outfit is complete without it, and it brings your whole aesthetic together. This time I chose La Belle Le Parfum by Jean Paul Gaultier.
The choice was an absolute no-brainer. It is the scent I would expect a sensual feminine vampire to smell like, and it added an extra layer of edginess to the look and helped cement the message of the overall aesthetic. It is an intense, sugary vanilla and spicy cinnamon with an interesting pear note; it is the type of perfume I would say is a femme fatale scent, addicting and mysterious, the type you want to keep sniffing.
