Make ‘Em Green With Envy…
First things first, let’s talk colour! I had never picked up any item in a bottle green before, but I was drawn to the shade for the first time, and I am so happy I followed my instincts. This colour is so chic and elegant. Although the dress is extra, I mean it is called “drama queen.” The dress’s colour kept it on the sophisticated, sleek side without veering into the obnoxious, ostentatious realm. The colour was perfect and would definitely be especially great for Christmas! But it works beautifully for multiple occasions and is versatile. I chose to pair it with nude and silver, but it can be paired with various colours. White, silver and gold would probably be your best bets for a glam occasion. Still, you are free to experiment; keep an eye out for my upcoming content on foolproof green colour combos for some extra inspo.
Maybe All Heroes Do Wear Capes…
I have avoided talking about them long enough, but it is time to address the dress’ pièce de résistance: the cape sleeves. Cape sleeves add such a chic element to a dress, but they can be a slightly intimidating, dramatic style to bring out on a typical day. However, when it comes to occasionwear, nothing is off-limits (except wearing white to someone else’s wedding, of course!) Cape sleeves are subtle but definitely have a presence of their own. If you are the type that hates glitter, sequins or other in-your-face enhancements but still want a little ‘extra’ in your outfit, I suggest looking towards a cape dress. To me, cape dresses are the trench coat of the dress world; I think they are so classically elegant.
Maxi-mal Glam..
I love a maxi dress for an elegant occasion. Something about covering up will always make you look expensive; less is more and whatnot. My issue with many maxi styles is they can be pretty shapeless (well, on me). Still, this dress was made from a stretchy jersey material that was completely opaque (no one wants a wardrobe malfunction at a glam event) and so flattering. The material contributed to the dress’s contouring effects, making it a good style for all shapes, heights and sizes. The stretch also meant the dress was super comfortable; I had it on from about 6am in the morning until late evening and would have been fine going longer.
Thigh Splits & Square Necks…
There is a thigh split you should be aware of; however, it is not too high. In fact, it was the perfect addition to show just enough skin (but remain elegant) and also practical as it made the dress easier to walk in, which would have been difficult if it was a full form-fitting maxi. The dress was also not too long, and with a pair of heels on, it was easy to walk in, and I ran no risk of tripping on the fabric of cascading hemline (for reference, I am 5’4). Another chic element of this dress is the square neckline which maintains the sophisticated appeal of the dress while keeping it appropriate for various professional occasions (even work-related), as there is no plunging neckline or obscenely high splits or cutouts.
Lets Talk Shoes & Bags
I opted for diamanté butterfly clear-heeled mules, and I will admit I purposefully matched them to my earrings (more on these in a little bit). I liked the idea of keeping the accessories cohesive, as I wanted the look to stay sleek. These heels are 5″, so they are pretty high but not too difficult to walk in despite being stilettos, as the heel has a broader surface area at the base. If you are uncomfortable with stilettos, I suggest you stick to a block heel or any other heels you feel comfortable in. The heels are mules, so you don’t have to worry about stubborn buckles chipping your manicure (been there!)
I chose a dark green bag for this look; I wanted to incorporate another green element and felt the bag was the best route to go through but remember, you can choose whichever colour you fancy. The bag had a croc effect, which brought texture to the look.
Jewellery, Hair & Makeup
As I mentioned, I consciously chose butterfly diamanté earrings for this outfit as I knew I would wear the butterfly diamanté heels. I liked the cohesion and thought it created balance in the accessories, but you do not have to do this if you feel it is a bit much. As I didn’t want to overdo it, I did not choose a butterfly necklace, but I stayed within the family and opted for a flower necklace instead; I guess you could say I had a theme in mind and stuck it out.
My chosen hairstyle was a curly ponytail. I know this may seem quite basic to some, but ponytails are chic, timeless styles that allow for a glam aesthetic but ensure you avoid veering into the overdressed territory. A sleek low or high bun would have also worked perfectly. I recommend an updo over having your hair down, as the dress has nice shoulder detailing, making your shoulders appear broader and creating an hourglass illusion if that is what you are going for. As usual, I kept my makeup minimal, but as this is occasion inspo, I 100% encourage you to throw in some glitter on your eyeshadow or go for a bold lip; feel free to amp up your makeup to fit the occasion!
Scent Check
Lastly, let’s talk perfume; you already know that I ALWAYS say; no outfit is complete without it, and it brings your whole aesthetic together.
I chose Gucci’s Guilty EDT this time round. This scent is quite mature as it has a powdery smell, making it the perfect fragrance for a sophisticated look. Although you can wear this year-round, I recommend autumn as it has a fall scent vibe making it ideal for holidays, aka occasionwear season! It is floral, sensual, elegant, expensive smelling and non-offensive making it perfect for gatherings.
That’s All For Now!
Enjoy your celebrations, occasions and events! I hope you got some inspiration from this post, and I look forward to doing more occasionwear inspo for you, so best believe more is on the way! Please remember not to put too much pressure on yourself; celebrations are times to treasure with your loved one, so don’t solely focus on the outfit but more on the people you are celebrating with!
Stay safe, have fun, and remember to get pictures!
Until next time fashionistas
Unique.
