Quiet Luxury Fashion Trend: Money Talks, Wealth Whispers

Quiet Luxury Fashion Trend

Forget Ostentation, that’s over! Stealth wealth is officially in. Quiet luxury is about to invade the fashion scene read on to discover exactly what quiet luxury is and how to get the look.

Let’s Get Loud About Quiet Luxury

Quiet luxury trend alludes that the obsession with ostentatious displays of wealth are over! Instead of loud logos and dripping in designer, 2023 is about to lead the movement of sophistication and stealth wealth. Instead of screaming money, this trend whispers perfect craftsmanship, high quality tailoring, timeless aesthetics and a clean laid back luxe. Less is more; It is all about style over fashion with this one.

Stealth wealth is quality over quantity, investing in high end pieces that will last a lifetime, maintain their quality and remain stylish despite the season or trend of the moment. Popular materials for quiet luxury are cotton, leather, cashmere, silk and linen.

Right Off The Runway – SS23

Many design houses have stuck to the quiet luxury aesthetic since they were founded. For example Kate Moss graced the Bottega’s runway in what appeared to be a simple flannel and jeans but upon inspection, the shirt was made using 12 layers of print to ensure the depth of colour was perfect. This is the epitome of quiet luxury: high quality but minimal enough that it does not appear obnoxious. However, many others design houses have now adapted to the upcoming trend (even those known for extreme logo mania) and it was very evident in the SS23 fashion shows. The Row as always also had some amazing designs grace the runway sticking to the status quo of chic minimalism. A few more designers synonymous with this style that followed suit at their shows include: MaxMara, Saint Laurent Paris, Loewe, Totême, Jil Sander, Prada, Fendi and many more.

Fashion & History Repeats Itself Again

Although Y2K has been ruling the fashion scene lately, this trend has roots in 90s minimalism but with an elevated elegance. Fashion and history do truly repeat themselves. Some of you may remember how the ‘normal aesthetic’ or ‘norm core’ took over fashion after the 2008 recession, it could easily be argued that quiet luxury is the up coming season’s version of the norm core trend, although with an expensive, elegant makeover, which is fitting due to the whispers of the incoming recession.

Regardless this style is not new at all, in fact it has been a signature for many individuals for decades. It has alway been showcased in fashion shows of notoriously luxurious brands; think of the luxe that Chanel’s tweed, Hermes Birkin and YSL tailoring has always advertised.

Keep in mind some of these items are quite expensive but are worthy investments as their high quality nature will mean they will last a lifetime.

Quality Over Quantity – 10 Must-Have Items That Scream Quiet Luxury

  • White Button Down Shirts: – er on all shapes, sizes and colour. A classic style that will 100% last the test of time. Automatically sharpens your look and adds a chic cleanliness to any outfit.
  • Silk Button Down Shirts: – All the same reasons as a white button up but with extra elegance because of that subtle sheen.
  • Dainty Jewellery: Remember less is more. The daintier it is, the more expensive it looks.
  • Trench Coats: Trench coats are basically a uniform of luxury. Everything from the fit to the neutral colours they come in scream chic elegance. Trench coats are timeless, practical and a timeless classic that are going no where any time soon.
  • Tailored Blazers– Versatile and stylish all year round. Everyone needs a blazer, go a step further and invest in a high quality one that can be paired with multiple items in your wardrobe. A classic cut blazer is timeless and sticking to neutral colours will ensure you can wear your blazer forevermore.
  • Tailored Trousers: Elegant fitted look, not too slim and not too shapeless. Tailoring makes your clothes fit better making you appear more put together. You can get a style that already has a tailored fit and also take them to a tailor for a custom fit.
  • Satin Slip Dresses: – Classy, chic and silk is definitely a luxury, high-quality material, it always looks expensive. Perfect choice for evening wear that is elegant but not showy.
  • High Quality Bag: A high quality bag will never not be in style. Investing in a high quality bag will luxe up your look and also save you money in the long run as it will last. For the Quiet Luxury look avoid bags plastered in logos or monograms.
  • Knee High Leather Boots: For knee high boots to last, they have to be the best quality. A pair of well invested leather (or pleather) knee high boots not only look expensive but will last a lifetime. Cheaper materials may cause gathering of the fabric at the ankles or start to lean which will cheapen your look.
  • Quality Leather Belt – Leather is a quality, durable and reliable material and a good leather belt will last you a lifetime. Skimping out on a leather belt will be more expensive in the long run as cheap belts crack easily and would need replacing frequently. Remember it does not have to be real leather! You can also get durable, high quality pleather.

I will leave you to build your quiet luxury wardrobe capsule. Remember; whisper, don’t shout.

Until next time,

Unique
