Blue is rated as the number one favourite colour of most people, but how many of you know just how many colours blue looks stunning with? Here are 10 stunning blue outfit colour combos to help you out if you are stuck in a rut of repetitive colours.
White
This duo is up there with top colour combinations that will never go out of style; think of the nautical aesthetic; how polished a white shirt looks when paired with a pair of blue jeans?
This combination is crisp and fresh, and I recommend it, especially if you want to channel the clean girl aesthetic.
Pay extra detail to shades in this combination to enhance your outfits further; off-white looks great with navy, and ivory complements navy blue: which is also great when contrasted against a stark white etc. You cannot go wrong with this colour combination; it is an iconic classic.
Blue
Blues look great together.
Sticking to the same shade of blue throughout your outfit will help you master the monochromatic look. Blue is versatile; it even goes with itself, so feel free to be bold and go for an all-blue look.
However, suppose you are on the fence about going full-scale smurf. In that case, You can mix and match different shades of blue and create contrast throughout your outfit: Cobalt and pale blue make a beautiful pair, as does washed-out denim and dark blue. Using lighter/brighter shades as accents throughout your outfit will enhance your look. Tip: keeping the accent colours consistent in your accessories will ensure you look polished.
Remember, you can also play with textures and patterns to add dimension to your look.
Green
So you know that old age saying, “blue and green should never be seen?” yeah, throw that out of the window because the blue and green combo looks excellent when paired correctly. Think about it: blue makes up half of the green, so naturally, they look good together. If you are still on the fence, think about nature? Blue and green are always seen together in nature; it is a natural duo.
To master this combination, pay attention to tones. Pair an emerald with a teal or mint green with pale blue, and so on. You can also introduce a neutral to this palette if you want to add an extra layer; white looks great with both, as does a camel colour. Avoid making the third colour anything that could cause your outfit to clash.
If you are still wary, just picture a peacock.
Pink
Talk about opposites attract! Blue and pink are often viewed as opposites in a traditional scent – but they can be paired into stunning combinations. If you combine these two colours perfectly, you can create a uniform and balanced aesthetic.
Remember to play with shades: pastel blues with pastel pinks look soft and feminine. You can also combine light pink with navy for a contrasting look with a toned-down version of the ‘frilliness’ of pink if it is not your style. This combination will always be pretty, so don’t be scared to dip your toe into this combo. I can guarantee you have worn pink with blue denim in the past, so there is nothing to be scared of if you’ve already been doing it, right?
Brown
Brown and blue are one of my favourite combos. Together they create a beautiful vintage aesthetic that I just adore. As I mentioned in the brown colour combos post;
these two balance each other while maintaining a steady contrast. Blue and brown are complementary colours. There is also evidence in nature that blue and brown are great together (think sea and sand), so this combination is more or less fool-proof.
Purple
You can absolutely pair blue with purple; blue even emphasises the cool tones within the purple. People find the undertones difficult when dealing with purple; but once you master the art of identifying blue-heavy purples from red-heavy purples, you will be a pro at this colour combo. The key to pairing blue and purple as a beginner is sticking to cooler-toned purples within the same shade category of both colours.
Pastel purple and pastel blue look great together, as do light blue and light purple.
Don’t feel limited to this tip, though, as there is a way to mix and match the shades, and you can do so once you feel comfortable! For example, light purple and navy look stunning together.
Yellow
Again a colour combination you probably see every day but haven’t noticed; the sun in the sky? Anyone? Anyway, this combination will always work for a vibrant modern look.
This combination will always work because they are opposite each other in the colour wheel, so they are complementary; you cannot go wrong.
Have fun with this combo; it is there to be playful with though certain combos would be mustard yellows paired with deep blues or cerulean paired with buttery yellow.
Orange
Orange and blue may sound like quite a frightening combo to pair together, but as complementary colours, these two colours pair stunningly together. You can go as bright or bold as you want, and this pair will still work. Saturated tones work exceptionally well together; think of deep oranges with indigo blues. You can also tone it down; cerulean and a paler orange will balance each other out, do not forget navy, which can calm the orange down in any blue/orange combo.
Black
You are probably familiar with the fashion rule of not wearing black and blue together. That rule is outdated; black and blue look beautiful together. Using blue as a contrasting colour works well; baby blue with black is stunning. Navy was especially frowned upon when discussing colours you cannot wear with black. This stemmed from preconceived notions that pairing the two can look like an accident: like you got dressed in the dark. However, navy and black are a very sophisticated combination. There is a reason why this duo is seen all over office wear. Also, don’t be scared to pair black with brighter blues such as royal blue or cerulean; it will work, especially if the blue is used as an accent.
Beige
Beige is very safe to pair with every colour, blue included. Feel free to play with different blues and find one perfectly catered to your style and taste. Navy and beige are a classic combination. Beige with bright blues will create a vibrant look, and pale or pastel blues with beige will curate a soft look. It is up to you which way you want to go in this combination; beige is just like black; it goes with everything.
